Old Fashioned Farm Drink

What is Switchel?

Switchel, also known as haymaker’s punch, is an old farm drink traditionally made with vinegar, ginger, water, and something sweet like honey, maple syrup, or molasses.

Long before modern sports drinks, farm families would mix simple ingredients into a refreshing drink for long, hot days of work. It is sweet, tart, ginger forward, and meant to be mixed with water, sparkling water, or iced tea.

This elderberry version from Made Whole Farm and Food Co. comes as a concentrate, so you can mix it lighter or stronger depending on your taste.

Sourcing That Matters

Known Ingredients. Real Sources.

The raw honey and elderberries in this switchel are not mystery ingredients. They are single sourced from small family farms in Nebraska, which is exactly the kind of ingredient transparency we look for when bringing something new to ROCK.

The Family Behind The Bottle

A shared love of real food and whole body nourishment.

Made Whole Farm and Food Co. is run by Ellen and Ben, a husband and wife team whose story began at a farmers market. Ellen, a functional nutritionist, was buying vegetables from Ben, a produce farmer, and their first conversation was about the pros and cons of GMOs in the food supply.

That shared love of food quickly became something bigger. They fell in love, got married, moved to the farm, and eventually grew Ben’s produce business into Made Whole Farm and Food Co., a farm and food brand rooted in the same mission Ellen had carried through her nutrition work.

That is one of the reasons this switchel felt like such a natural fit for ROCK. Amy and Ellen share a similar passion for functional and naturopathic nutrition, traditional foods, and ingredient quality. This was not just another drink concentrate to us. It was a product made by people who understand why sourcing, simplicity, and real ingredients matter.

At the heart of it, Made Whole and ROCK care about the same thing: providing food we would feel good serving to our own families.
